On behalf of North Lakhimpur College, I appreciate the interest shown by you in our institution. North Lakhimpur College has been known for its quality education and at our institution, not only academics but also overall personality development of the student is looked after. It may sound clichéd but if one looks at our activities in detail one would realize the truthfulness of this claim. More particularly, this year is extremely important for the college as we are gearing up for the next NAAC re-accreditation and diamond jubilee of our institution with our heads held high as the immediate goal of our institution to elevate our status to A grade from the previous B+ grade has been successfully fulfilled. At present, we are counted among the best in the country.
Education is undergoing a sea change and it is quite understandable that it becomes difficult to make decisions about which course and which college to choose. In any case, the ultimate aim of education is to make a person knowledgeable and well informed and offer him/her some life skills so that one can earn one’s livelihood. With that aim, the college also offers some unique diploma programmes in various fields. A student can pursue this part time diploma courses along with his/her bachelor’s degree programme. These diploma courses have proved to be of great advantage to all students who applied for post graduate studies abroad or in reputed institutes in India.
It would certainly be myopic to look at any educational programme purely from the job placement point of view. An educational programme/college that would ensure a long term benefit such as sustainability rather than a short term promise of job placement has better chance of survival in the contemporary world of higher education. For this very reason, the significance of research and development gets more vital as the UGC has set up very stringent norms in academic quality and deliverance. I exhort all staff members to publish quality papers in referred journals in their respective disciplines to keep the standard of excellence in the college which has already been honoured with the status ‘centre for potential excellence’ CPE.
As teaching and research goes hand in hand, ‘Publish or perish’ has been the motto of the contemporary academic community .To encourage teachers in quality publishing our college will provide all the basic facilities which I earnestly hope would go a long way in fine tuning our research credentials. I hope that as we begin the 2012–13 academic year, we are guided by a sense of pride about the important work we do, that we share optimism about where we are going, and we have a shared commitment to each other, our students and our college.
Thank you, and have a great year
